4,6-Diaminoresorcinol is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be cleaved by hydrogen peroxide to form a redox potential. It is also known as the sodium salt of 4,6-diaminoresorcinol and it is used in the production of diazonium salts and other organic compounds. This product can be found in soil and water samples that have been contaminated by hydrocarbons or other pollutants. The presence of this product can be identified by elemental analysis. 4,6-Diaminoresorcinol can be prepared from anhydrous phosphoric acid and chloride gas in an acidic solution. The crystallization process involves adding hydrochloric acid to the solution followed by heating at 150 ˚C for two hours.
