The rate of the reaction is dependent on pH and temperature. cis-1,2-Dichloroethene is reactive with fatty acids, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, and other compounds containing chlorine atoms. Cis-1,2-Dichloroethene has been shown to be biologically degraded by microorganisms. It has also been shown to be stable in complex with diphenyl ethers and polymers. cis-1,2-Dichloroethene can be dechlorinated by rat liver microsomes in vitro.
