beta-Damascenone is a diterpene that is found in the essential oil of various plants, such as turpentine and juniper. It is an ester of 3-hydroxy-3-methylhexanoic acid, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. beta-Damascenone can be extracted from urine samples using solid phase microextraction. This compound has been used in experimental models to test the effects of diethyl succinate on fatty acid metabolism. beta-Damascenone was also used to study how carotenoids are hydrolyzed by different enzymes, such as hydrochloric acid or enzyme hydrolysis, and how this affects their chemical structure.
