Descripción:2,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanone is an organic acid that is found in the leaves of the tree Psidium guajava. It has been shown to prevent fibrillation by inhibiting the release of calcium ions from the intracellular stores and stabilizing cellular membranes. 2,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanone has also been shown to induce carboxylic acid formation by aldol condensation with glyoxal and hydrolysis of the resulting acetaldehyde. This process has been shown to be kinetically controlled and can be used as a method for introducing alcohols into organic synthesis.
