1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine is an effector protein that functions to stabilize the extracellular matrix. It has been shown to be effective in the stabilization of lipid bilayers. This compound is a biocompatible polymer that can be used as a model system for studying dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE). The phase transition temperature of 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine is approximately -10°C. This property makes it suitable for use in applications where freeze/thaw cycles are required. The nitrogen atoms in this compound can react with alkanoic acids and liposomes to form stable complexes.
