3,3′-Dichloropivalic acid is an organic compound that is a proton acceptor. It has been synthesized by reacting nitroethane with hydrogen peroxide and 3,3′-dichloroacetyl chloride. The molecule has a disulfide bond and an inorganic core. 3,3′-Dichloropivalic acid has been used as a fluorescent probe for the detection of antigen-antibody reactions and multinuclear molecules in microscopy. The fluorescence properties of 3,3′-Dichloropivalic acid are sensitive to changes in pH. This compound absorbs light at wavelengths above 350 nm, making it useful for the detection of nucleophilic groups such as amines and thiols.
