Dichloro-sulfamethoxazole is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that can be used to treat infections caused by bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. It is also used as a water-soluble drug for wastewater treatment. Dichloro-sulfamethoxazole inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and blocking protein synthesis. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties against tissue cultures of human erythrocytes and rat hepatocytes. Dichloro-sulfamethoxazole can cause allergic reactions in some people, especially those with asthma or other respiratory allergies.
