2,3-Dibromo-1-propanol is a chemical with both acidic and hydroxyl properties. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of certain liver enzymes and may cause liver lesions in rats. 2,3-Dibromo-1-propanol has also been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of phosphotungstic acid due to its stability in acidic solutions. 2,3-Dibromo-1-propanol can be used as a chemical intermediate to synthesize other compounds such as phosphorus pentoxide or bromohydrins.
