N-Dansyl-L-phenylalanine is a fluorescent derivative of phenylalanine that has been used as a substrate for protein synthesis. The phosphatase activity of the enzyme was determined by measuring the release of inorganic phosphate from N-dansyl-L-phenylalanine. N-Dansyl-L-phenylalanine binds to human serum albumin, and the binding constants were determined using spectrophotometric measurements at 280 nm and 250 nm. The molecular weight of this molecule is 204.2 g/mol, while its melting point is approximately 136°C.
