Dapoxetine is an antidepressant that belongs to the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, dapoxetine and (R)-N-demethyl dapoxetine. The preparation process for dapoxetine includes a liquid chromatography step. Impurities can be detected by analyzing the nitrogen content and methyl group in the molecule. Dapoxetine has been shown to have no significant effect on platelet aggregation or blood pressure. However, it may cause side effects such as nausea, headache, insomnia, and dizziness.
