Descripción

Demethylepipodophyllotoxin is a naturally occurring compound that has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential, which may lead to cell death. Demethylepipodophyllotoxin also inhibits the production of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). This drug has been shown to be effective in reducing the size of solid tumours and resistant mutants in a mouse model. Demethylepipodophyllotoxin binds to the DNA template, preventing DNA synthesis and promoting cell death by inhibiting enzymes activities. Demethylepipodophyllotoxin has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against bacteria, fungi and protozoa as well as antitumour effects on cancer cells.
