N-Desmethyl rosiglitazone is a drug that inhibits the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is responsible for the production of cholesterol. This drug has been shown to be effective in lowering blood sugar levels and treating type 2 diabetes. The human pharmacokinetics of this drug have been studied using a chemical inhibition method. It was found that the hydrochloric acid from the stomach could reduce absorption of rosiglitazone by as much as 37%. The matrix effect was also found to increase absorption by up to 50% when taken with food. Rosiglitazone may interact with other drugs, such as rifampin, which can lead to an increased risk of side effects or toxicity. Organic anion transporters are known to transport drugs and eliminate them from the body through urine. When these transporters are blocked, concentrations of rosiglitazone are increased and it can take longer for this drug to be eliminated from the
