Descripción

Verapamil is a drug that belongs to the group of calcium channel blockers. It is used for the treatment of high blood pressure, angina, and other heart conditions. Verapamil is metabolized in humans by cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP) to form p-O-desmethyl verapamil, which has a slower half-life than verapamil. The CYP3A4 enzyme catalyzes the formation of p-O-desmethyl verapamil from verapamil to a greater extent than CYP2D6. The CYP3A4 enzyme has been shown to be important in the metabolism and clearance of many drugs. This drug can also be converted by glucuronidation or sulfation into inactive metabolites that are eliminated through urine. The pharmacokinetics of this drug have been studied using flow rate chromatography with acetonitrile as the mobile phase and fluorescence detection at an excitation wavelength of 280 nm
