5,6-Diamino-4-hydroxypyrimidine is an acidic compound. It is a dioxime derivative of the pyrimidine molecule. 5,6-Diamino-4-hydroxypyrimidine has shown antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 in vitro. The pyrimidine ring is the central part of the molecule and contains two nitrogen atoms that are involved in viral replication. The hydroxyl group on the 4th carbon atom can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules, such as water or dimethylformamide. 5,6-Diamino-4-hydroxypyrimidine is a molecule that is used to synthesize chalcones.
