Dibenz[a,h]acridine (DBHA) is a fluorescent compound that belongs to the class of epoxides. DBHA can be used as a probe for in vitro assays to determine the transport properties of organic compounds. DBHA has been shown to have genotoxic effects, and can be used as an analytical reagent for determining the concentration of carbocations. DBHA has also been found to exhibit potent biological activities against bacterial strains with respiratory chain defects. It is structurally similar to phenazine methosulfate, which inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with thymidylate synthase and DNA synthesis.
