2,3-Dibromophenol is a dibromophenol with an inhibitory effect on bacteria. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by interacting with hydrogen bonds in their cell walls. 2,3-Dibromophenol can be used as a carbon source for bacterial growth and may be useful in inhibiting the replication of DNA. This compound is synthesized by reacting bromine with phenol and it may be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other molecules. 2,3-Dibromophenol has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
