It can be synthesized by the cycloalkylation of ethyl bromoacetate with hydroxylamine. The resulting 2,3-dichloro-6-nitrobenzonitrile is extracted from the reaction mixture with water, acidified with dilute hydrochloric acid, and then precipitated as its ethyl ester salt. The 3D structure of this chemical was determined by X-ray crystallography.
