Descripción

Dihydrolovastatin is a bile acid transport inhibitor that blocks the uptake of bile acids by the liver. It has been shown to decrease the number of adhesions in animal models and reduce blood cholesterol levels, thereby preventing atherosclerosis. Dihydrolovastatin also inhibits the biosynthesis of cholesterol, which prevents the formation of plaques in arteries. This drug is a statin that functions by inhibiting an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis, HMG-CoA reductase. Dihydrolovastatin has been shown to be effective as a drug substance for treating hypercholesterolemia and preventing cardiovascular diseases.
Dihydrolovastatin binds to hydroxyl groups on proteins and covalently links with cysteine residues to form disulfide bridges, which are important for maintaining the three-dimensional structure of proteins.
