N,N-Diisopropyl-3-pentylamine is an amine that has a hydrogen bond with the proton of a reactive acceptor, which then reacts with the proton. The reaction mechanism for N,N-Diisopropyl-3-pentylamine is similar to that of other hydrogen bonding compounds and can be described by the following equation:
