3,5-Dimethyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde (DMPD) is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of synthetic pyrazoles. It is synthesized by reacting a 1,3,5-trimethylpyrazole with formaldehyde and chloroform in the presence of ammonium chloride or sodium bicarbonate. DMPD has been shown to have good antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria and can be used for the treatment of infections caused by these bacteria. The mechanism of action involves the formation of a covalent bond between the pyrazole ring and DNA, which prevents DNA replication.
