2,6-Dimethylphenylpropionate is an organic compound that is synthesised in a reaction of 2,6-dimethylphenol with propionic acid. It is used as a reagent to catalyze the ubiquitin proteasome pathway and has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of a number of sulfanyl compounds. 2,6-Dimethylphenylpropionate is also used to synthesise enolate compounds. This reagent can be prepared by condensation of propionic acid and formaldehyde. The product is purified by recrystallisation or distillation.
