2,2-Diphenylpentanoic acid (DPPA) is a fatty acid that is produced by the liver cells. It is biosynthesized from choline and acetate and is used as a precursor for carotenoids, prostaglandins, and other related compounds. DPPA has antioxidant properties and can be used to reduce oxidative stress on tissues. The oxidation products of DPPA are formed by enzymatic reactions with oxygen or by exposure to light. This product may also inhibit the formation of n-oxide in the presence of procaine or morpholine.
