It is used as a targetable drug to treat cancer cells with high lipid content and also as an implantable drug for treating localized prostate cancer. 1,3-Dibutoxy-2-propanol can be used to prepare pharmaceutical preparations such as tablets, capsules, or solutions, which may contain excipients such as starch or lactose, and other ingredients such as preservatives. The basic structure of 1,3-dibutoxy-2-propanol consists of a hydroxy group at one end and two butoxy groups at the other end. It has been shown to have iontophoresis properties when it is applied externally to the skin.
