N,N-Dimethyl-N'-ethylethylenediamine is a molecule that is used as a ligand in coordination chemistry. It has been shown to form crystallization products with metal ions such as copper, nickel, and zinc. These complexes are stable and predictable. This ligand can be used in the design of new catalysts. The ligand can be synthesized from ethylenediamine and dimethylamine by condensation reaction with phthalic anhydride. The reaction time for this process is about three hours at room temperature. N,N-Dimethyl-N'-ethylethylenediamine is also a part of many organic reactions including the synthesis of polyisophthalates from dimethyldichloroethene and phthalic anhydride.
