Di-n-octyl sebacate is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of glycol ethers. It is used in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride and other products. Di-n-octyl sebacate has a high stability at room temperature, with a phase transition temperature of about -5°C. It also has good water vapor permeability and low reactivity with water, which makes it suitable for use as an additive in paints and coatings. Di-n-octyl sebacate reacts with magnesium salt to form magnesium sebacate, which is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in alcohol and ether. The reaction mechanism between di-n-octyl sebacate and malonic acid has been studied extensively using a model system.
