N,N'-Dimethyl-(1R,2R)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine is a nucleophile that can be used for the synthesis of esters. It reacts with an electrophile to form a bond between the two molecules. This process is called ring-opening and it is catalyzed by many different types of enzymes. N,N'-Dimethyl-(1R,2R)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine can be used to synthesize enantiomers in high yield and diversity. It has been shown to react with alkyl bromides or reagents to produce optically active products.
