Dimethyl maleate is a chemical compound with the formula CH3-O-CO-CH2-CH(OH)-CO2M. It is an ester of dimethyl fumarate and maleic acid. Dimethyl maleate is a white solid that is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. This product has been used for the asymmetric synthesis of a range of natural compounds, as well as for pharmacological agents. Dimethyl maleate has also been studied for its potential use as a high-temperature lubricant additive to increase the resistance to oxidation and wear.
