2,6-Dimethyl-2,4,6-octatriene is an analytical method that is used to measure the cytotoxic potency of a terpene sample. The method uses a UV absorption technique and titration calorimetry. It is also used to measure enzyme activities such as odorant binding and light emission. 2,6-Dimethyl-2,4,6-octatriene has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against Gram positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus. This may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with the cyclohexane ring in the bacterial cell membrane.
