2,4-Dichlorobenzenethiol is a chemical that belongs to the group of thiols. It is used in the synthesis of formylated tetrahydrofurans. 2,4-Dichlorobenzenethiol can be synthesized by reacting pyridine with chlorine gas and hydrochloric acid in an aqueous solution. The reaction yield is high and the product is easily purified. 2,4-Dichlorobenzenethiol reacts with water to produce a viscosity increase. It has been shown to have a kinetic rate of reactions that depend on the concentration of hydroxyl groups in the molecule and the presence of other functional groups (e.g., carboxylates).
