Descripción:2',4'-Dichlorovalerophenone is a formaldehyde reagent that is used to produce epoxides. It can be synthesized in the presence of sulfate and potassium hydroxide, and yields the sought-after product when heated at a temperature of 120°C. The reaction is an electrophilic substitution, which involves the addition of a nucleophile to an electron-deficient carbonyl group. 2',4'-Dichlorovalerophenone can be recycled and derivatized by sulfoxide formation or by conversion to methyl 2',4'-dichloroacetophenone.
