2,3-Dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone is a chemical compound that belongs to the family of antioxidants. It has been shown to have antioxidative properties and can be used in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a non-fluorescent dye. The polymerase chain activity of 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone was studied using a model system which consisted of a mixture of hl60 cells and an enzyme solution. When tested on hl60 cells, this compound had antiinflammatory effects and inhibited the production of reactive oxygen species by inhibiting the enzyme activities involved in oxidative metabolism. Disulfide bonds are important for protein folding and stability. Redox potentials are related to the oxidation state of an atom or molecule in relation to its electron distribution.
