1,4-Dithiane is a chemical compound that has been shown to have carcinogenic properties. This molecule absorbs ultraviolet light and can cause mutations in cells by altering the DNA. It binds to chelate ring containing metals (e.g., copper) and forms reactive intermediates that react with DNA, causing mutations. 1,4-Dithiane has been tested as a possible cancer treatment for humans in a few different studies. In one study, this compound was found to reduce the growth of tubule cells in the kidney by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing cell death. Another study investigated the effects of 1,4-dithiane on radiation damage in mice and found that it reduced oxidative stress caused by radiation exposure.
1,4-Dithiane is also known as a molecule or chemical structure with chemical composition C2H6S2N2. It belongs to group P2 of the periodic table and has two sulfide bonds.
