Didodecyldimethylammonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt that is used in wastewater treatment. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of the human lung carcinoma cell line Hl-60 and can be used as an antimicrobial agent in biological studies. Didodecyldimethylammonium chloride has also been shown to have a matrix effect on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, which may be due to its ability to form metal hydroxides with some metals. This drug also has the ability to displace benzalkonium chloride from p-glycoprotein substrates, making it a good candidate for a fluorescence probe for nucleic acid detection.
