Descripción

2,3-Dimethylmaleic anhydride is a chemical compound that is used as a drug to treat tumors. It is a phase transition agent that has been shown to be biologically active when activated by the presence of tumor cells. 2,3-Dimethylmaleic anhydride binds to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) on the surface of tumor cells. This binding leads to activation of TLR4 and downstream signaling pathways, which results in the induction of tumor cell apoptosis. In addition, 2,3-dimethylmaleic anhydride has been shown to bind to hydrophobic pockets in cellular nuclei and may be used as a transfection agent for gene therapy.
