This compound inhibits the activity of 5-HT2 receptors and has been shown to have antiviral properties. It also has been shown to be a neurotransmitter that can inhibit glutamate release by inhibiting the presynaptic release of noradrenaline. DHPG has been used in whole-cell recordings to study the function of neuronal cells. Additionally, it can be used as a prophylactic agent against bowel disease.
