It has cytotoxic effects against cancer cells and Plasmodium falciparum with IC50 values of 0.03 and 0.06 μM, respectively. This compound has significant antimalarial activity against the parasite Plasmodium falciparum with an IC50 value of 1.1 μM in vitro. The cytotoxicity observed for 2,6-dimethoxy-1-acetonylquinol may be due to its phenolic moiety or its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis by binding to DNA polymerase alpha subunit (pol alpha).
