3,4-Dibromoisoquinoline is a diarylethene with structural modifications. The methyl group at the 3 position of the isoquinoline ring is replaced by an ethyl group, and the bromine at the 4 position is replaced by a chlorine atom. This modification results in photochromism and phosphorescent properties that are dependent on temperature. Diarylethenes are used as tools for investigating photophysical properties because of their high stability, large variety of colors and ease of synthesis.
3,4-Dibromoisoquinoline has been shown to be useful for studying the photophysical properties of diarylethenes.
