4,6-Dichloro-2-methyl-5-nitropyrimidine is a synthetic organic compound that can be prepared from malonate. It is used in the synthesis of other compounds, such as purines and chlorinated aromatic compounds. 4,6-Dichloro-2-methyl-5-nitropyrimidine is synthesised by reacting trichloroacetic acid with nitrous acid. This reaction produces a mixture of two isomers: 2,4,6-trichloropyrimidine and 2,4,6-trichloroethylpyrimidine. The oxychloride of 4,6-dichloro-2 methyl 5 nitropyrimidine can be obtained by the hydration of the chloride with sulfuric acid.
