7,8-Dihydroxyflavone is a natural compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cancer cell lines in vitro. It blocks the function of pro-apoptotic proteins by binding to basic proteins, thereby inhibiting the activity of neurotrophic factors that are involved in neuronal death. 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone also inhibits lipid metabolism and energy production pathways. This molecule has been shown to activate a response element in vitro and inhibit polymerase chain reactions (PCR). 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone is an ester hydrochloride salt that can be synthesized from 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethanol and acetyl chloride.
