Descripción:Dolichol is an important constituent of cell membranes, especially in liver cells. It is a precursor to diphosphate synthase and has been shown to play a major role in the biosynthesis of membrane phospholipids. Dolichol-18 has been used as a diagnostic tool for liver diseases, such as fatty liver disease. The use of this compound can be used to identify the type and severity of liver damage by measuring the levels of its metabolites in the blood or urine. These metabolites are identifiable either by HPLC or GC-MS methodology.
