Diethylglycine is a molecule that can be synthesized by reacting sodium citrate with diethyl malonate. It has been shown to inhibit syncytial virus infection in the model system. This compound also inhibits the production of vasoactive intestinal peptide in the bowel disease model system. Diethylglycine reacts with a number of organic acids, such as inorganic acid, to form cyclic peptides. The conformational properties of these cyclic peptides depend on their intramolecular hydrogen bonds and disulfide bonds. Diethylglycine also reacts with 2-aminoisobutyric acid to form a coordination complex.
