This compound may be useful for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. 5,6-Difluoroindole has been shown to block the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine. This leads to an increase in acetylcholine levels and a decrease in AChE activity. The reaction mechanism for this process is not known.
