2,4-Dichloro-6-methyl-pyrimidin-5-ylamine (DCMP) is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with electron rich compounds such as benzylamine to produce an N-substituted pyridine. This reaction is based on the theory of electrophilic aromatic substitution. The functional theory and the molecular orbital theory are also used to explain this reaction. DCMP can be synthesized by reacting carbon disulfide with nitric acid in a regioselective process. Nitrous acid is used to generate sodium nitrite from sodium chloride and nitric acid. Sodium nitrite then reacts with carbon disulfide, forming DCMP and water.
