It is also a potent inhibitor of the enzyme hydrochloric acid, methanol solvent and hydrogen chloride which are all vital for bacterial growth. 3,4-Dibromothiophene produces an electrochemical signal that can be measured using impedance spectroscopy. This chemical is used to study the effect of chloride ions on the hybridized state of DNA molecules.
