2,5-Dichlorobenzaldehyde is a molecule that is used as a building block for the synthesis of etoposide. Etoposide is an anticancer drug that has been shown to be effective against many types of cancer cells. 2,5-Dichlorobenzaldehyde has been proposed as an optical probe for detecting methyltransferase activity in vivo and in vitro. It has also been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by binding to survivin, which plays a role in regulating apoptosis. 2,5-Dichlorobenzaldehyde can be synthesized from commercially available chemicals with asymmetric synthesis methods.
