1,3-Diethyl 2,2-diethylpropanedioate is an organic compound that is used as a precursor to polyurethanes. It is synthesized by the reaction of diethyl oxalate with ethylene glycol. 1,3-Diethyl 2,2-diethylpropanedioate is soluble in hydrocarbon solvents such as benzene and hexane. The product obtained from this reaction has a particle size between 0.1 and 10 micrometers. This product can be used as a catalyst for the reaction between nitric acid and sodium nitrate to form nitrogen dioxide gas. In addition, 1,3-Diethyl 2,2-diethylpropanedioate can be used to produce polycarboxylic acids by reacting it with sulfuric acid and phosphorus pentoxide.
