2,2-Difluoropropionic acid is a fluorinated organic compound that is used as a solvent in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, polymers, and other organic compounds. It has been shown to be an effective solvent for chlorine-containing compounds. This chemical is also used in the preparation of fluoroacetic acid, which is an analog of acetic acid with a fluorine atom replacing the hydrogen atom on the carbonyl group. 2,2-Difluoropropionic acid can be substituted for other solvents in certain reactions without altering the reaction outcome. The viscosity of this chemical is lower than that of hydrocarbons and it has a boiling point higher than that of aliphatic hydrocarbons. 2,2-Difluoropropionic acid also has an increased solubility in water relative to aliphatic hydrocarbon or aromatic hydrocarbon solvents.br>br>
