It has been shown to be effective in the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of aldehydes with organoboronic acids. 2-(Dimethylphenylsilyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane inhibits the formation of an undesired enolate by binding to the silicon atom and sterically preventing nucleophilic attack at this site. This ligand is also selective for anions with a single negative charge such as chloride and bromide.
