• Descripción: 1,3-Diiodo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DIMH) is a drug that has been shown to be effective in preventing the development of type 2 diabetes. It is also used as a treatment for nephrology dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease who are at risk for infection. DIMH inhibits protease activity, which may account for its ability to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes and to inhibit hepatitis C virus replication. DIMH has also been shown to be effective against viruses such as HIV and influenza. DIMH is an asymmetric synthesis that can be used for the production of monoclonal antibodies and hepatoprotective compounds. It is metabolized by lipid kinases in liver cells, leading to its hepatoprotective effects.
