Diethoxymethylsilane is a chemical compound that has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives. It can be synthesized by reacting diethyl silane with hydrochloric acid, followed by hydrolysis to form the corresponding alcohol. Diethoxymethylsilane is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 123°C. It reacts with water vapor and hydroxyl groups to form compounds that contain a dielectric group.
The nmr spectra of this compound show two peaks at δ=6.99 and 7.53 ppm, which correspond to two different conformers. The thermally-induced reaction produces cyclopentene oxide and other reaction products, such as chelate rings and amines.
